Spirulina is a blue-green algae that has been used for centuries in the Far East in nutrition and medicine to maintain and improve health and in the treatment of many diseases. It is called a super food because it has an incredible nutritional profile, i.e. it is full of a wide spectrum of very important nutrients. First of all, it is an excellent source of protein, it contains good concentrations of Omega 6 and the very important Omega 3 fatty acids, an excellent source of Copper, Iron, Manganese, Magnesium and smaller amounts of Zinc, Calcium, Phosphorus and Selenium, an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, B3, good source of B5, K and E and also contains B9, B6, A and C. Spirulina also contains extremely important phytonutrients such as beta-carotenes, zeaxanthin and high concentrations of phycocyanin, superoxide dismutase (a very powerful antioxidant enzyme), Gamma-Linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid) and sulfolipids.

Phycocyanin is a unique antioxidant that is characteristic only of algae/spirulina (it occupies about 16% of the total weight of spirulina) and according to scientific research it can play a role in the regeneration of stem cells, the production of red and white blood cells (erythrocytes and leukocytes) in the bone marrow, and as an antioxidant in the human body, it turns into phycocyanorubin and significantly helps in the prevention of oxidative stress on blood vessels.
